Perfect expression of my geekiness

This pretty much covers most of what makes me a geek. I love it!

I don't know if it will work here but on the home page for XKCD if you hover your cursor over the comic you get a pop up window that reads : "Moments later, the White Witch rolls up and, confused, tries to tempt the probe with a firmware upgrade"

Which just makes the whole thing that much better.

Yes, I'm a geek.

Peace

A Favorite

Outside of pictures of my family and friends this is my favorite picture of all time. My boyhood hero, Bill Mazeroski, bringing home a world championship to the 'Burgh. And it was against the hated Yankees. Want to really annoy a Yankee fan? Ask them how is it possible to score more runs than the other team by a significant margin(55-27),out hit them (91-60), out homer them(10-4), hit for a higher batting average than them(.338 - .256), get two complete game shut outs from your ace (Whitey Ford) and still lose the World Series? Then point them to the 1960 Series.

And for extra points - to annoy Chicago Cubs fans point out that since 1945 only two teams with three even EX-Cubs have ever won a World Series (Pirates - 1960, Diamondbacks 2001). No team with more than 3 players tainted by the curse of the billy goat have ever done it. Now THAT's a curse!

Rockin' some Rocky music!

So shoot me - I like kids, this song and yes at least some of the Rocky movies (I, II and the last one at least). PS22 is an elementary school somewhere around the Big Apple apparently. Maybe Staten Island? If I'm wrong some native New Yorker will no doubt correct me while implying that I must be some kind of idiot for not knowing that. I love my brothers and sisters of "The City" but you really need to grasp the concept that most of the rest of the country doesn't really care that much about "The City". With all due love and respect. (Great now I've ticked off an entire major metropolitan area and I have to travel there in a month. LOL)

I can hardly wait

I've been a Star Trek fan since the earliest days. James T. Kirk has been a hero of mine since I was a kid. This gave me goosebumps.

Ummm, did someone forget to tell me something?

So I'm sitting in my office in the parish house when I hear someone downstairs. Last I knew everyone else was out of the office. So I glanced out my window and saw this:'

Turns out it was just the semi-annual inspection and check of our fire system by your friendly neighborhood fire department.

This is the most exciting thing that has happened today.

LOL.

Hmmm, sometimes these things are spooky

Your Spiritual Number is Four

You bring stability and order into people's lives.

You are a devoted friend, and you are able to help other get out of extremely chaotic situations.

Right now, your life is about making difficult choices and complicated decisions.

You find yourself at a crossroads, and you can't stall any longer.

While you may be going through a confusing time, you are confident that you will do the right thing.

You have the courage to do what's best, even when it's hard.

Doesn't Surprise Me a Bit

You are a Hippie

You are a total hippie. While you may not wear birks or smell of incense, you have the soul of a hippie.

You don't trust authority, and you do as you please. You're willing to take a stand, even when what you believe isn't popular.

You like to experiment with ideas, lifestyles, and different subcultures.

You always gravitate toward what's radical and subversive. Normal, mainstream culture doesn't really resonate with you.

Oh that name game!

As much as my ego would love to say I'm the only one I know for a fact it ain't so. There is a police officer with my name in Moorhead MN. And there appears to be one in Nevada too. While they are listed that way it may not be thier official census name. So maybe I AM unique.

The peanut gallery will come to order!

Other cool facts - My first name is the 334th most common, 97% of us are guys. My last name is the 13,874th most common. Apparently there are only 2,231 of us.

There are 3 people with the kid's name and 7 with the same name as my lady wife.

A couple quick items

In my family we have a concept called "Threat of treatment".

Examples -

The minute you make an appointment for your mechanic to look at your car that noise goes away.

The minute you make the appointment to see the doctor the cough/fever/whatever goes away.

The laser printer here in the parish house wasn't working. We called the repair guy. It just ran off 12 perfect two sided copies.

Yeesh.

One of my favorite Episcopal blogs is "Telling Secrets" by Mother Elizabeth Kaeton. She's smart, she's funny and oh yeah she's got that whole living a life in faith thing down pretty good too. Well she's got a great Christmas gift with a twist post up here. You should definitely check it out. Hard to pick my favorite item but I know how much it annoys my coffee addicted brothers and sisters to have someone take their cup. So how about this:

LOCK-CUP

Lock Cup - Anti-Theft Coffee Cup. Are you tired of others stealing your coffee cup? Well now there's a solution. The Lock - Cup has a hole which prevents most people from using it. Only the owner of the cup can use his/hers shaped key to close the hole.

Check out the banana guard, day clock, toilet seat lifter and more...

So Cool!

Yes, I'm easily amused. But I don't care this is just an amazing performance and piece of video. It's not deep or profound or spiritual but it's cool. Just admit it and move on.

This is Corey Vidal. And he's amazing. The song was originally created by the a cappella comedy group Moosebutter

Aaaaaarrrrrr! It's talk like a Pirate day!

I first came across this bit of silliness years ago. It's just too much fun to pass up.

So Ahoy mateys! Welcome aboard my Pirate ship the "Poison Sabre of Hell", (name generator)

I am your captain: Iron Sam Kidd
"A pirate's life isn't easy; it takes a tough person. That's okay with you, though, since you a tough person. Even though you're not always the traditional swaggering gallant, your steadiness and planning make you a fine, reliable pirate. Arr!"

Get your own pirate name from piratequiz.com.

So greet the day with an Arr or I'll have the lot of ye keelhauled!

What Sci Fi character are you?

Yoda

A venerated sage with vast power and knowledge, you gently guide forces around you while serving as a champion of the light.

Judge me by my size, do you? And well you should not - for my ally is the Force. And a powerful ally it is. Life creates it, makes it grow. Its energy surrounds us, and binds us. Luminescent beings are we, not this crude matter! You must feel the Force around you, everywhere.

Yoda is a is a character in the Star Wars universe. More Yoda information is available at the Star Wars Databank.

What Spice am I? Oooooh, spicy!

Your Score: Saffron

You scored 75% intoxication, 50% hotness, 100% complexity, and 25% craziness!

You are Saffron!

Those other spices have nothing on you! You're warm, smart, and you make people feel really good (and with no side-effects!). You can be difficult to get to know and require a lot of those who try, but you're so totally worth it. *Sigh*

From the sublime to the ridiculous

This is from Lark News:

Inner-city ministry trip confirms youths’ worst impressions

CHESTERFIELD — A youth group from a suburban mega-church traveled to inner-city St. Louis for a ministry trip which confirmed their preconceptions about urban poverty.

Full Story

Before anyone has a coronary Lark News is a parody news site.

And don't miss THIS:

Episcopal Church named official denomination of Major League Baseball

Here's some exciting news that's breaking this first day in April:
baseball

(by email)

As a part of opening week festivities, Commissioner of Baseball Bud Selig and Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori announced today that the Episcopal Church has been designated the Official Denomination of Major League Baseball. The move was announced today in a teleconference with reporters.

Ummm, well, I guess...

Saw this over at Marko's blog and thought "Gotta try this one!". Then like Marko I got an answer that isn't quite what I was expecting. In the spirit of transparency I offer the answer (but PLEASE don't read too much into it! It's just a silly web thing)
What Book Are You?

You're Love in the Time of Cholera!

by Gabriel Garcia Marquez

Like Odysseus in a work of Homer, you demonstrate undying loyalty by sleeping with as many people as you possibly can. But in your heart you never give consent! This creates a strange quandary of what love really means to you.
On the one hand, you've loved the same person your whole life, but on the other, your actions barely speak to this fact.
Whatever you do, stick to bottled water. The other stuff
could get you killed.
